It was so great meeting everyone today. I had fun, even though it was hot, humid and pouring rain. We had a really productive day and I have to compliment everyone on their behaviour! Keep it up and the "odds will ever be in your favour!"(Hunger Games).
We began the day with little personal history and family info from me. I know it was a little much (as I heard from Ms. Wong) but I want you to get to know me really well and I look forward to learning all about you. After that we had an outdoor recess where everyone got a little fresh air. Next we played a name game and I tried my best to learn all of your names. It was fun, and I loved hearing about your favourite parts of the summer.
After that, we made some classroom agreements. Everyone was great at making suggestions and we hammered out some good rules. I like them, and they are based in the Tribes agreements. Next we played a game called "Heigh Ho". It was interesting and everyone did a great job in our tiny portable space.
Lunch was inside, too hot and too sticky! All we needed was a bit of fresh air but all we were given was open windows! Once we were back in class, after an introductory class with Ms.Wong we played a game called "The seat on my right" and Ms.Funston stopped by to help out and meet us all. The poetry project was introduced and rough drafts were started (all handed in poems have been edited by me and are ready for 2nd drafts, to be handed out tomorrow). A style note for everyone would be to add the words that you are describing and use more descriptive words. For example, instead of saying : Needs parents, love and technology. Change it to:
Needs a great set of parents, someone to love her for who she is and technology to keep connected with all of her friends.
We were forced to have an indoor recess and we kept working on our poems like busy bees. I am happy to report that more than half of the class actually finished their first drafts and are ready to start adding more detail to their work tomorrow morning. We ended the day with the hand-outs for media releases, library, gym, snack program, insurance, and I'm sure I'm missing a few. Please return them properly signed back to the school as soon as you can! Alright see you tomorrow...I'm tired...need...sleep...now!
Here are pictures of a whale's tail and a calf breaching from my favourite part of the summer! |
