Today was a super fun day! Lots of sun, fun and exercise!
We began our day doing our stop motion photo shoot for the opening of our film. Next we met the nursing students who will be working with us this year, and you all did a survey on what things you would like to see from the health program this year.
We spent some of the morning conferencing about your poems and then we had a bit of a work period before we headed out to finish the rest of the photos. I am looking forward to the premiere, tomorrow!
After lunch, we did the Terry Fox walk/run and it was nice to get out into the community and walk around. See pictures below!
We had a moment to pack up for the day and then headed out for recess and the day was pretty much over!!! I can't believe it!
For tomorrow:
Make sure math is finished
Make sure you have both your I am From poem finished and your SOTM started
Index cards
Walking Forms (you know who you are)
Guidance homework (check last night's blog)
Science plans set up & ready to go!
French:
Imperatif quiz tomorrow!! Conjugate Tu, Nous & Vous with endings! Study!!
I think that's it! See you all tomorrow!
This blog is my tool to connect with my students and their families on a regular basis. I love to keep communication lines open and I look forward to your comments here.

Meet the Creature Night!
Sorry for the late post all, but as you remember tonight was meet the creature (teacher) night at Lucy's school. It was crazy, lots of kids and lots of parents. Today we had a great day! Lots of work got done and everyone worked really well.
We began our day with Math. We watched the video below in class and then continued on with our math. We unpacked the ideas surrounding concepts of what a sequence was, how a table of values is organized and with the 8's we discussed how a table of values can help us to organize our algebraic expressions. Homework tonight is: 7-p.133 #1-5 and 8-p.132 #3-8.
In language we continued on with our Student of the Month instruction, and discussed how to write our persuasive paragraphs. I will post the notes online tomorrow night, as I forgot to take a picture of my charts today because we were so busy with the film!
This afternoon, we had a work/catch-up period with Mrs. Nicholson's class in the library. I was able to work with Mrs. Nicholson's class and I appreciate all of you being so patient while I was working with the other students!
At the end of the day we went outside to finish taking our photos for the film. Special thanks again goes to Beyonce - you were an amazing help and I appreciate your calm and patient manner.
From Mr. Webbe to all of you:
Link onto this website below and look around and then complete the steps below!
For tomorrow:
Twoonie for Terry Fox! We walk tomorrow!!
WALKING FORMS! WE NEED THEM FOR THE WALK TOMORROW!!
Math 7-p.133 #1-5 and 8-p.132 #3-8
Language: Work on your SOTM & finish your I am From poems please!!
Science - Bring your things, and get ready to rumble and build your structures!!
History: HAND IN YOUR TITLE PAGES!!
Have a great night and see you all tomorrow! :)

Tuesday - Film Production Day One
Good evening all! We had an interesting day today. The morning was really productive and I was impressed at how many of you worked well and listened in the morning! Great job! This afternoon we had a few snags in our plans (including a fire drill...SURPRISE!) so we weren't as productive but we still worked hard!
We started the morning off watching the video below.
Some of you took notes and we stopped the video to discuss what both the grade 7's and 8's got out of this lesson. After that, we started working on practicing and applying our skills. The grade 7's did some hands on math building and charting. Applying their knowledge of term values, the terms and communicating patterns. The grade 8's continued identifying the constant in multiple patterns and then designing algebraic expressions for their findings. Some people started working together and a few of you who were struggling had a breakthrough today( Woo hoo! Picture me doing the robot dance)! Homework for 7's p.131 #8-11 (try 12 if you dare). For 8's - the entire worksheet...we'll be unpacking some ideas tomorrow in the AM! So be ready.
Today in language we talked about JUST the introductory paragraph for your Student of the Month (S.O.T.M.) nomination papers. We talked about the importance of grabbing your audience's attention at the beginning and making sure you follow through with a solid thesis statement. After tomorrow's lesson I will post pictures of the charts from class so that you can refer to them when you start writing your nominations. We finished with brainstorming some of your ideas and you worked with a partner to get the ideas out. Finally...it was lunch.
Today French was a wrap up of the quiz from yesterday....I am unsure of the next assignment but will touch base with Ms. Wong tomorrow.
During our History periods we handed in our title page assignments. If you haven't handed it in today get it done tonight!!Then we went outside to capture some of the photos for our film, which worked really well. Special thanks to Anjali and Beyonce for your extra help, it was much appreciated! :)
We ended the day with a library exchange, special thanks to our library helpers Beyonce and Destinee you made it a flawless transition and I was so glad you were there.
For tomorrow:
Math: Homework for 7's p.131 #8-11 (try 12 if you dare). For 8's - the entire worksheet
Language: SOTM brainstorm & I am From final draft
History: Title page
Walking Forms & Terry Fox money
Index card correction sheets!
Have a great night and I'll see you tomorrow! <3

Monday! Rotary Day!
It was a sunny and mild day today and we got a lot of work done! I am proud to say that we worked well together and all went well! Friday's trip went really well and if you look below you will see the slideshow from the Olympic parade we saw. It was a really great time and I hope that if you got to go you enjoyed it!
Make a picture slideshow I have one more interesting video to add too. I hope you don't mind but we thought it was pretty funny! Okay, so we started the day with Math. The grade 8's continued working on their algebraic sentences while the grade 7's started charting their results in a term chart. Homework for math is: Grade 7 - p.130 # 4-7 Grade 8 - p.128 #8-10. After recess and a little more math, we started to unpack the I am From poems you all handed in. They needed work and we worked on them, I'm looking forward to editing the 2nd drafts that some of you handed in to me today. After lunch we talked about Terry Fox and upcoming items for our agendas. Next you had Mrs. Nicholson for Science and I have attached her notes below. She is expecting you to have your Science structures rough drafts due tomorrow first thing in the AM!! Reminders for tomorrow: Math : Grade 7 - p.130 # 4-7 Grade 8 - p.128 #8-10 English: I am From - 2nd Draft, Quotes Done ASAP!! History: Title Pages are due tomorrow!! Science: Structures rough draft! Thursday: Olympic Athlete & Cake Day!
Today was a special day we had Olympic athletes at our school and we ate cake because it was Mrs. Nicholson's birthday. So lucky us!
We started the morning with math. It seems as though many of you had a great learning day yesterday with Mr. Corby, so congrats to you all. We continued on making algebraic equations and the grade 7's continued on identifying patterns and explaining them. I think the grade 8's have p.128 #4-7 and the grade 7's have p.126 the whole page! Sorry I forgot to write it down before I left for the day.
After recess we got called down to the gymnasium to meet and greet two Olympic athletes. We got to learn about some of their training habits, how they felt about representing Canada and we also got to find out more about their personal lives. It was a once in a lifetime experience and we are lucky to have had the Olympians come to our school. I took some photos of the assembly but below have attached pictures of both Virginia McLachlan and Martin Reader.
After lunch we had some time to watch a couple of videos to reinforce what we are doing in math. You will find them attached.
We then talked about our next health project, and how we are going to go about it. We will talk about portions and see what some of those look like, so that you journal accurately when we start the new project.
After that we had some time to work together and finish up some projects, I started reading your I am From poems but will need some of the weekend to get more feedback on those pages.
Then finally it was the time we were all waiting for. Cake time. We sang Happy Birthday to Mrs. Nicholson and ate cake. It was delicious, thanks for having a birthday Mrs. Nicholson!
In French you handed in your postcards and hopefully everyone was finished. I hope you had a great day, because I definitely did!
For tomorrow:
1.Grade 7's we have a trip bring your lunch and dress for the weather
2. Math finish it, it will be checked on Monday
3. I am From poems bring them in for editing
4. Supplies for Science
5. Terry Fox donations
6. Trip forms if I don't have them for tomorrow!
Have a great night! See you all tomorrow!

Mrs. Nicholson's Birthday!
Today I was away and you had the pleasure of having Mr. Corby as your teacher. I hope you all were well behaved and that you had a good day. I had a long but good day. It seems so long ago that my daughter Lucy was so sick, and her heart didn't work well. I am happy to report that she is doing well and has been given the chance to get a check up every two years instead of every year. I have posted some photos below, and hopefully you will take some time to look at them. She is a strong girl and we are so proud of her.
I'll just recap what happened today.
You began the day with Math. Patterning and algebra, and drawing out the patterns and adding them to a t-chart. You were asked to do questions 8,9 &10. I will check to see what is done tomorrow so do the questions for homework if you haven't finished.
After that, you began working on your "I am From" poems. Hopefully you got some good ideas flowing and had an easy time planning your poems. I will conference with you tomorrow and am looking forward to seeing what you have done!
After lunch, you were given some time to work on your title pages and hopefully you used the time wisely. Next you had gym with Mrs. Nicholson and I hope you all had fun.
For the end of the day you all searched for natural objects to use with our print-making unit. I hope you had fun, and were able to find some really cool things.
For tomorrow:
1. Math finished
2. I am From - started and ready for conferencing tomorrow
3. History title pages - started and ongoing
4. Bring in materials for Science
5. TTC photos are tomorrow $5.25
6. Surprise planned for someone who had a birthday today postponed to tomorrow!
See you all tomorrow!

After her appointment, she got a bear with a heart on it for being so brave. |
This was the wing where we lived for a month at Sick Kids because Lucy was so sick. |
This was before Lucy's surgery, she was weak here and had to have oxygen all day and night. |
Happy leaving the hospital with her Daddy. |
From when we were first admitted to the hospital. Note that she has two IV's in and yet it seemed as though she didn't have anything wrong with her hands! I love my super girl! |

Rainy Tuesday!
Rain! Rain! Go away! Come again another day! Today we started off soaking wet and the air was really humid. We worked well together and and a great deal got done in class!
We began our morning doing scatterplot graphs and extending the T-charts with the data on them. Many students needed a quick refresher on how to do graphs and what a good step size/scale was so we'll have to work on that. Work was completed in class and is due on Thursday, so please get your graphs done for a quick check in the AM. You will find the Scatterplot checklist attached below!
We then took a moment to establish our new writing assignment. This assignment will use your descriptive writing skills and your recount skills. We did a discussion and brainstorm session about the topics and you all took notes on what we were covering for the poem. The rest is up to you and you can see the categories attached below. I have done a chart for the classroom and you will see it tomorrow.
After lunch we started our History unit and went over the specific learning goals for both the grade 7's and 8's for this term. We then took a look through our new textbooks and took some jot notes on some key ideas, pictures, and people from each of the units we were studying. I assigned you all to create a title page each to go at the front of your duo-tangs. They should be images about the some of the themes we discussed in class and in collage form. You will get some time tomorrow to work on these in class.
The rain stopped just enough to have a cold, chilly and windy outdoor recess and then we finished the day at the library. Most students were able to take a book out to read, and I expect to see those in class when you are all finished your work and have some time to yourselves.
Reminders for tomorrow:
1. Bring your I am From brainstorm page to work on
2. Finish your Scatterplot graph if you haven't already
3. Title page for History due
4. Structures materials - keep collecting them!
5. TTC photos Sept 20 - $5.25
6. Trip forms for the grade 7's!

Monday! Monday!
Good Evening All! Just finished dinner and thought I'd update between clean-up and Lucy's bath time!
We had a great start to the week: a new seating plan, Ms. Mayers came in and discussed the planner with us, we started a our new units in both math and literacy and you began Science with Mrs. Nicholson!
We began the morning going through the learning goals of our Patterning and Algebra unit. We did a calendar activity and started to see how the relationship between the task in the text was related to algebra. Most students had trouble following the instructions and figuring out what the text was asking them to do...so we need to work on that.
Homework was assigned:
Grade 7 - p.121 #1-6
Grade 8 - p.123 #1-6
After our industrious math lesson, we started our language unit on recount and descriptive writing. We did a sensory writing task where we tasted Hershey's kisses and wrote about what we felt, heard, tasted, saw and touched. The task was then to put together a descriptive paragraph using the data we collected with a creative flare. I have read a couple of your entries and it will be awesome to take up in class tomorrow. This is due tomorrow morning, please complete them!
After lunch we had a work period, students were invited to use the time to work on their math or language and everyone did a really great job! Please remind me to add 17 points to our class party tally!
We did our first rotary switch today, and Mrs. Nicholson talked to you about building structures. I have taken a picture of your class notes and will post them below. Please collect boxes, straws, masking tape, toilet paper and paper towel rolls for your upcoming structure project! Don't recycle...bring them in!
You all had gym with Mrs. Nicholson after and she told me that you took a long time transitioning outside. Meaning it took almost 15 minutes for you all to get yourselves organized and to get outside for your gym time. Please don't take this long again...it takes away from your rotary experience and Mrs. Nicholson has planned activities that she has to cut short because of slow moving teens!
In French you have the postcard assignment. I have posted another picture of it if you wanted to get it done at home! Mrs. Wong told me you were all well behaved and listening in class, so I was so happy to hear that!
Reminders for tomorrow:
Math
Grade 7 - p.121 #1-6
Grade 8 - p.123 #1-6
Language
Descriptive paragraph about a Hershey Kiss
Science
Structures boxes and supply collection
French
Postcard assignment
Please keep collecting Styrofoam trays for our art project
HEP B AND HPV forms are overdue!!! Please return them ASAP!!

Welcome Safwan!
Surprise! Safwan returned to school and we are so happy to have him in our class! Today we had beautiful weather and great working students so it was an excellent day!
We began our day with a final quiz on multi-digit multiplication and long division. It went well and everyone finished before recess so that was awesome. After recess we attempted the last portion of the CAT 4 - Mathematics. Everyone worked quietly and it was a pleasure to be done the standardized testing.
Today you met with Mr. Webbe and he shared some information about Cornell notes. Please find the video below to help remind you about what you talked about.
After lunch, we finished up our discussion about the learning skills and I discussed the set up for next week and some upcoming events. We also discussed the attire for Hillside tomorrow and below you will see a list to remind you of what you need for tomorrow:
1. Long pants
2. Closed toe shoes (preferably running shoes)
3. Litterless Lunch
4. Rain gear (coat, umbrella, back-up jacket)
For the remainder of the day we went outside and played a co-operative game and then had some free time seeing as we have been working really hard all week!
Ms. Wong told me about the French for this week and she wanted me to remind you of the following things. You need to memorize how to conjugate the verb: Aller (see picture) and to memorize the vocabulary list from the Community spelling list. I have also attached the postcard assignment for next week so that you can get thinking about what you might want to add there.
I hope you all have a great night, and I'll see you tomorrow!

Wednesday...one more day until our trip!
Today was a great day, lots got done and the morning was BEAUTIFUL!
We began the day with our Awesome, which was totally about the nostalgia of the smell and sound of a campfire. We all had memories of Camp Kearney (me included) and remembered what it smelled, felt and sounded like. Math we continued review on Multiplication and Long Division. I handed out some practice drills and students were offered extra help. Tomorrow there is a quiz so study if you have to...and practice if you can!
I am happy to report that tomorrow will be the last day of CAT 4 testing! It's all over tomorrow. We did the calculation and estimation portion and many of you worked well, so congrats to you! BRING A CALCULATOR FOR TOMORROW! We are doing the Mathematics portion of the workbook so you need to be prepared.
The rest of the morning was spent doing poem work, quotes for our film and silent reading. The poems are really looking great. If you didn't hand it in today you need to do it tomorrow AM- FIRST THING!!
After lunch we picked our Student of the Month criteria and it was a great discussion. Our characteristics are: RESPECT, GOOD FRIEND & GREAT ATTITUDE. Good luck on picking your person, it's going to be interesting.
You all had gym with Mrs. Nicholson and it seems like you had fun. Also you had French and there is no homework.
At the end of the day we deconstructed the LEARNING SKILLS that are going to be on the first Progress report and what they mean to you and to me. We are setting up expectations to work towards and I can see that you all take your school work seriously. We ended on a positive note and it was a great day!
For tomorrow:
1. Trip Form
2. Trip Money $3.00
3. Snack & Breakfast Money Donation
4. Agenda Money $5.00
5. GRAPH FOR MR. WEBBE!!!
6. Poem & statement for me!
Have a great night!

Twooz Day!
Today was our one week anniversary. The weather was perfect, you all worked really well together and we definitely know each other a lot better than last Tuesday!
We started the morning off with our Doughnut & Juice reward. We also caught up on what we had to accomplish and set a plan in motion. Math from yesterday was checked, taken up and new work was assigned. Just a page of long division is for homework tonight...one page = no sweat. I will be checking them so get them done.
We spent the rest of the morning finishing the Literacy portion of the CAT 4. Most people finished before lunch and I am proud of how you all worked together.
After lunch you had French...not sure what is for homework so I'll have to follow up with Ms. Wong tomorrow.
This afternoon when you were with me we: re-analyzed the short film, finished up our poems and worked on our quotes/messages for our version of the film. Good copies of the poems are due at the end of the day tomorrow...I'd love to have them posted by Thursday.
Hand-outs went home today: Breakfast program, Boys & Girls Club applications, Trip Forms and Immunization Forms. Please get them filled out by your parents and bring them back ASAP!
For tomorrow:
1. Math worksheet done!
2. Trip Form
3. Agenda money $5.00
4. Snack money $7.00
6. Trip money $3.00
7. Boxes and cardboard rolls for structures unit with Mrs. Nicholson
8. Bring quote list (if you have one)
9. Finish your poems if you took them home!
10. Bring a calculator tomorrow to do the math portion of the CAT 4!!
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Monday! Monday!
Hello All! Hopefully most of you have found us here on the blog by now...if not we're going to have to do something about it! Just so you know, Mr. Nathoo has linked our blog and Mrs. Nicholson's blog to the school's website so you can find us there. I have tried tonight but something's not working for me so hopefully after I've eaten dinner I can find it!
Today was a productive day. We started with a math check and take-up. Most of you finished your work from the past few days and did well when we took up the answers in class. After recess we started on some more practice drills on long division and 4 by 2 multiplication. That worksheet on the lime paper is due tomorrow AM. Will I be checking it tomorrow? You bet!
A few of you were having a little trouble on long division, so you will find a video below to help you if you are stuck.
Mr. Webbe is expecting you all to have graphs done on how you spend your time. Today we had a discussion about what things we spend our time on, and how they can be broken up into percentages and then graphed...so there should be no confusion. I have posted pictures of our brainstorm on what we discussed below.
We did a part of CAT 4 today and we'll be doing two tomorrow...seeing as we have a trip on Friday. We also finished up CASI, and I have finished marking the grade 8's so far.
This afternoon, we had a work period for most of the time. Some of us finished up work from this morning, others worked on their poems and some of us just needed to read (for a break). So far I have 4 finished poems...and I WANT MORE!! We'll work on this tomorrow afternoon again.
I got some positive reviews from Ms. Wong in French today, so keep up the good work. I love hearing good things about the class I love the most!
For tomorrow:
1. L-(you know who you are) bring your missing form!
2. Snack $$
3. Agenda $$ 5.00
4. Math worksheet
5. Finished poem (if you took it home to work on it)
6. Graphing project for Mr. Webbe
Have a good night all! See you tomorrow in the AM!

Day 4 down!
Well, it was a hot one today. Super hot and humid and for some reason the plugs stopped working at the hottest part of the day?! We just had to have the circuit breaker reset and then our fan began to work again! Ahhh relief!
Today was a productive day! We started the morning with 2 by 2 digit multiplication and did some practice in class. We also had a quickfire long division sheet to complete and most people used their time wisely and got their stuff done. Just a reminder that all math sheets are being checked on Monday and I will be writing down who is done and who is not. This assessment is for your learning skills comments on the progress reports and I am looking to see how you work in class. So please stay focused. The video below is a little tutorial in case you are having any issues doing your math and I will be available for extra help at morning recess if you need it.
After recess we started the reading portion of the CAT 4. We worked on it all morning and people were drained in the brain from all that hard work. It was hot but everyone did their best and I was happy to see you all working so well.
After lunch we revisited the CAT 4 and used the time as a work period before heading outside for a much needed break. It was fun playing a co-operative game with you all and there seems to be a bit of a rivalry developing between the 7's and 8's!
The day ended in a meet and greet class with Mr. Kidd in Drama. He told me that you behaved fairly well and he was impressed. So keep up the great work.
For Monday:
1. All forms back!!!
2. Agenda Money $5.00
3. Snack Money if you committed to paying it
4. Math worksheets all have to be done (checking them first thing!!)
5. Finish your poems, share the blog link with each other and don't forget your quotes!
Okay have a great weekend! Thanks for a great week! See you Monday AM!

Three's a Charm!
Good evening class! I hope most of you have finally found me tonight on the blog! I am happy to say that a few keen students have already found me and of course...many of you are still looking!
Today was a super productive day with a heavy focus on math and literacy. We started the day with some three digit multiplication review and then some long division. We spent most of the morning working on our worksheets and most people finished their work in class. If you are not finished then, it is for homework...so do it!
We also picked our CASI stories and got started on writing our reading responses in the booklets. This pretty much ate up most of our day!!`Most students have finished but time will be given tomorrow if you still have a few questions left!
This morning, Mr. Webbe was in and talked to you all about how you spend your time. I didn't catch what all of the lesson was about but...you have a graph to do that breaks down your time into percentages. It is due on MONDAY...so get crackin'!!
The day ended with a practice fire drill and French class. Hopefully everyone was well behaved for that class.
For tomorrow:
1. Math Sheets if you didn't finish your work in class
2. Outstanding forms - media release, snack, library, phys. ed (donuts!)
3. Work on your graph project for Mr. Webbe
4. Snack $ AND Agenda money $5.00
Have a great night, and we'll see you tomorrow! Enjoy the pictures I posted below!
